JDM Melody Box (Custom)
from $39.00

Completely normal for any car imported from Japan, and completely JDM for any car anywhere else.

Now available in 12v versions!

Powered by USB, these little melody boxes can be programmed to say anything you want, in any language. Simply upload a .mp3 to the box, plug it in to the back of your head unit (or any USB) and when you turn the key, it will play!

We love the vibe these things set, and have been installing them secretly in our friends cars with funny messages for years.

Why do these exist? Japanese cars are fitted with toll readers, which require a card to be inserted to drive through the ETC gates on Japanese toll roads. When those cars get shipped overseas, the cards get removed, so the readers play a little message like “please insert ETC card”. Because it’s spoken by a sweet sounding Japanese woman, and unless you speak Japanese, you don’t actually know what it says… many of us simple appreciate the vibe it sets in their car!

Ordering process

In the notes, write what you want initially want your box to say, and in what language. We’ll program it before we ship it using high quality AI generated text to speech.

Tips

  • Japanese works best.

  • Up to 5 minutes can be recorded, but 2-5 seconds is best for the JDM vibe. That’s 10 to 15 words.

  • To change the message, just plug in a micro USB to the port on the side and drop a .mp3 file onto the device. Delete the old one, (empty your recycle bin on a Mac) and test!

  • Yes, we can upload WHATEVER you want on it… We’ve heard some WILD stuff

Notes

  • Must be powered by USB, or 5v. If you require a 12v version, please select it above.

  • Volume is set to the perfect volume to be heard from inside your dash, glovebox or centre console without the engine running.

  • Only one message can be loaded onto each device at a time.

Notes

DIY Option gives you the raw 3d printed dash. You’ll need to sand it, spray it with filler primer and then spray it again with your choice of paint colour. Failing to coat the dash makes them far more susceptible to deformation in the heat.

Heat resistant, but please remember these are 3d printed using ePA-CF. While that’s technically rated to 155ºC, the Australian sun does some crazzzzzy things inside cars in Summer. We’ve tested these dashes throughout summer in QLD with no problems, but your car might be hotter than ours 🥵

No, we don’t make these for UC10’s (They don’t fit very well)

5x120 to 5x114.3 Hub Drilling Template 5x120 to 5x114.3 Hub Drilling Template 5x120 to 5x114.3 Hub Drilling Template

5x120 to 5x114.3 Hub Drilling Template
$50.00

Got some cool JDM wheels? Can’t fit them under your BMW or Commodore guards with conversion spacers?

Time to drill your hubs!

These templates bolt to your existing 5x120 wheel hubs (and brakes) and give you a perfect template to punch and drill a new set of holes in a 5x114.3 stud pattern.

NEW! Updated version is specific for BMW, or Holden Commodores. The difference is the offset holes for BMW!

Made from ABS plastic, one template is good for one car.

You choose whether to re-tap the thread and use your existing wheel bolts, or insert 14mm studs and convert to wheel nuts.

Instructions

For best results, remove the wheel hubs from the car and use a drill press. This is a big job, and you don’t want to be doing it on the car.

Step 1: Remove the brake rotors

Step 2: Place the template onto the wheel hub and bolt it down with all 5 wheel bolts in the 5x120 (big) holes

Step 3: Use a punch through the 5x114.3 (small) to mark the centre point for you to drill through.

Step 4: drill a pilot hole using a 4mm drill bit. Keep the template on the hub while you do this to help drill a straight hole.

Step 5: Repeat for all 5 holes.

Step 6: Use a 10.5mm drill bit (if keeping the OEM wheel bolts) or a 14mm drill bit (if converting to wheel studs) to drill out each of the 5 holes

Step 7: Tap the 10.5mm holes with an M12x1.5 thread tap. OR, use an old wheel bolt, lube and some washers to pull a new 14.3mm wheel stud through the 14mm holes.

Step 8: If converting to wheel studs, weld a small tack onto the back of each stud to help prevent them spinning.

Step 9: Repeat for the other 3 wheels, and brake rotors.

Tips

  • This is a BIG job. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

  • Do the front wheels first while the template is fresh

  • Use a lubricant on your drill bits (WD40) and drill slow to avoid overheating the bit. Learn to sharpen drill bits on YouTube. It’s a good skill to have.

  • We use GKtech 14.3mm extended wheel studs and have had excellent results.
